Q: How do I change my default web browser?

A: Below is a step-by-step walkthrough in setting a default browser such as Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Google Chrome etc. This exercise is based on users with Windows operating systems such as XP, Vista or Windows 7 who have another browser installed on their computer but not yet set as the default.

For this exercise we are setting the browser to Mozilla Firefox.

  1. Navigate to your "Start Menu" on the computer desktop (Vista and 7 Indicates a sphere with the windows logo)
  2. On the right hand side of the start menu under the "Control Panel" wording, should display "Default Programs" Left click to bring up the default programs screen.
  3. Navigate to the option that reads "Set Your Default Programs"
  4. Left Click to bring up the window
  5. On the left hand side of the window are a list of programs installed on your computer in which you can set as the default for specific files to open with.
  6. Locate "Mozilla Firefox" in the list and left click to bring up the settings
  7. On the right hand side of the window will now display information regarding the program and options to set the program as default or choose specific files to open with this program.
  8. Left click "Set This Program As Default"
  9. Click ok to confirm and exit the window
  10. Success, you have now changed the default browser.

Q: How Do I Change My Homepage?

A: Below is a step-by-step walkthrough in changing your homepage in a web browser such as Internet Explorer. This exercise is based on users with Windows operating systems such as XP, Vista or Windows 7.

For this exercise we are setting the home page from http://www.google.co.uk to http://www.furiousdesigns.co.uk

  1. Navigate to the "Start Menu" on the computer desktop (Vista and 7 Indicates a sphere with the windows logo)
  2. Locate your current internet browser (Most commonly Internet Explorer)
  3. Left Click to bring up the window
  4. Locate the "Tools" option near the top of the browser and left click it.
  5. Scroll down to the "Internet Options" tab and left click.
  6. This will then bring up a menu with a selection of options and tabs in which to set various settings for your browser
  7. If not already selected, left click the "General" tab and locate the text box under the "Home Page" section - This box should either read blank or have a web address listed. (http://example.com)
  8. If a web address is listed, delete and type the website you wish to have as your home page such as Google (http://www.google.co.uk)
  9. After you have entered the new web address, left click "OK" or "Apply" to save these settings.
  10. Once back on the Internet browser, either exit and restart the browser or click homepage to take you to your newly set website.
  11. Success, you've changed your home page.
